Why

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is an underappreciated health concern by patients and clinicians alike. Many people cannot define “heavy” or binge drinking and the resulting problems when AUD goes unchecked. 

How

Two AUD experts discuss best practices for treating patients who may not be aware that they have a drinking problem and provide sensible strategies to challenge stigma and barriers to treatment

Clinicians are better equipped to address patients’ concerns about heavy drinking and can help them reduce their alcohol intake when total abstinence may be elusive.
